I was honored to become a godparent to my friendβs daughter, Maia, as she received the Sacrament of Confirmation at the same church where she was baptized. Our parish held a mass confirmation during its fiesta celebration, with participants from different schools and villages.
All the confirmands wore white. Some, like Maia, wore simple elegant dresses, while others wore borrowed or improvised clothes that did not perfectly fit them. Yet despite this, the girls fixed their hair, wore light make-up, and walked proudly toward the altar to be anointed with the oil of chrism. Watching them moved me deeply.
Many people overlook Confirmation compared to Baptism, but these familiesβsome clearly of modest meansβstill chose to honor this sacrament with devotion. Their faith reminded me that Godβs grace does not depend on status, wealth, or age, but on the heartβs willingness to say βyesβ to Him.
Have you or your children received Confirmation? If not, consider joining your parishβs next schedule. God is waiting to strengthen and embrace you there.
