Just recently, our family moved to a place nearer to my work. As we packed our things, Beth, my wife, took charge of sorting what to bring, what to leave, and what to throw away.
Watching her work was an eye-opener.
I realized how many things I had been keeping that no longer served any purpose. Old magazines. Photocopies of documents with no legal value. Gifts that had long lost their usefulness. They occupied space in the house rent-free, gathered dust, and demanded storage simply because at one point I thought, βI might need this someday,β or because I absent-mindedly set them aside and never revisited them.
After everything was packed, we had less to carry, less to move, and less to worry about. More importantly, almost everything that made it to the new place had a purpose.
Napaisip akoβganun din yata sa buhay.
Many of us carry forward our baggage that no longer serves us. Old hurts. Past failures. Unnecessary guilt. Grudges. Expectations that no longer fit who we are today. We keep them not because they are useful, but because they are familiar.
The beautiful thing about moving is that it forces us to decide what is worth carrying forward. Not everything from yesterday deserves a place in our tomorrow.
Some things are meant to be remembered. Some are meant to be carried. And some are meant to be left behind.
Keep moving, decide what baggage to carry.
