The return of BTS after years of military service is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated global moments in music—marked by longing, patience, and a joyful reunion. This mirrors the spirit of 𝐴𝑟𝑖𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑔 (아리랑), a famous traditional Korean folk song (and the title of their comeback album), that carries themes of love, separation, sorrow, and resilience. In many ways, both the group’s comeback and the meaning behind Arirang reflect a deeper human experience: waiting with hope for something—or someone—we deeply love.
As Catholics, this same pattern unfolds during Lent. We journey through a season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, walking with Christ in His suffering while anticipating the joy of His Resurrection. Yet, it is easy to fall into routine—treating Lent as a passing tradition rather than an invitation to grow closer to God. We often show great enthusiasm and devotion to the things we love yet struggle to offer that same (or more) passion in our relationship with Him.
As Lent comes to a close, we are reminded that, like Arirang, our journey holds both sorrow and hope, longing and quiet trust. His love remains constant—most fully revealed in Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross. Just as the song carries a gentle assurance beneath its sadness, so too does our faith remind us that we are 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞. May this season leave in us a deeper awareness that God’s love endures through every step, always guiding us home.
