I have been undergoing a series of chemotherapy for several months now.
My oncologist had already postponed one therapy session several weeks ago because of an unsatisfactory blood test result. My doctor usually moves a scheduled therapy to a later date whenever my immune system is too weak to handle the treatment.
The possibility of another postponement troubled me: I am scheduled to give a talk to a group of choir members as part of a parish pastoral care program soon. Worse, the frequency of my chemo sessions will increase (from once every three weeks) to once a week. Another postponement will definitely affect my church commitment.
I prayed that there wonβt be another postponement. And the Lord granted my heart’s desire: I passed my blood test that week. My chemo proceeded as scheduled. And I was happy I made it on my scheduled talk.
It is pure grace and mystery that, despite the heavy burden of a chronic illness, that Iβm able to continue serving the church. My strength to serve is not of this world.
This just proves that God does not need able- bodied servantsβ just willing ones.
And I will continue to serve Jesus with the remaining strength I have.
