𝘉𝘺 𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘚𝘦𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘯
It’s amazing how I am being taught about God’s protective love by my own children.
My son, Sabino, is two years old and has Down Syndrome. Because of that, his developmental progress is a bit different compared to other kids his age. But thank God, he’s been hitting so many milestones lately! One of the big ones is reaching for things that interest him—the glass of water on the table, his medicine, even his newly removed diaper. Anything!
Parents who have raised kids know that those gentle little hands can be lightning quick. Ganun din si Sabino despite his condition. Ang bilis!
More often than not, alam na namin ni Beth (my wife) ang tendency ni Sabino. So, we usually do one of two things:
1. We remove Sabino from the situation.
2. We remove the loose things he’s drawn to.
Siguro sa isip ni Sabino, para kaming kontrabida. Why are we “depriving” him of something he worked so hard to reach? Milestone nga niya yun, ‘di ba?
Of course, Beth and I have our reasons. We are protecting him from things that can hurt him or preserving things that are useful for him. We see the “big picture” that he can’t see yet.
Realizing this, it brought me back to Jeremiah 29:11 (and the sovereignty found in Jeremiah 10:10). May plano ang Diyos sa atin—at ang plano Niya ay laging para sa ating ikabubuti.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
More often than not, He will remove things from us that we perceive as “blessings” or “milestones,” but in reality, they are loose, unprepared, or even harmful to us at that time. We might feel deprived, but we are actually being preserved.
