THE AGONY OF WAITING

by Mia Sanchez

We, at times, probably have experienced being anxious or impatient as we wait in line when we are in grocery counters, jeepneys or bus terminals, or in long queues of food courts.

As we become anxious and impatient, we tend to lose control of our emotions, and the inevitable happens- we make faces, or worse, scream at the cashier, or throw a fit.

As I waited in my hospital room for my medical operation, I experienced fear and anxiety. I kept on uttering short prayers, ” Jesus, I trust in You; Mama Mary, I love you. Ikaw na po ang bahala”.

Jesus’ agony of waiting was a profound physical and spiritual struggle. Just like any of us, Jesus felt fear, loneliness probably of being alone and emotional distress. Jesus prayed to the Father; remained faithful despite His situation.

As soon as I regained consciousness 7 hours later, the very first words that came out of my mouth were, ” Thank you, Jesus! Thank you, Mama Mary!”

As we wait for God to answer our prayers, we are reminded to remain consistent in our faith and put our trust in Jesus.
