WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH: Loving God with a Healthy Body

TALK SERIES: WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH

Loving God With A Healthy Body

Welcome to our brand new series, WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, Loving God with a Healthy Body.  Our series title is taken from the Shema, the greatest commandment of Jesus: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30 NIV)

For the next five weeks, we’re going to talk about your health, but not just for the usual reasons gurus talk about—to have a better physique, sharper cognitive functions, more independence as you get older, etc.

You want to be healthy because of one glorious reason: You want to love God with all of your strength.

Talk 1: Why Fuss About Health?

We think of our bodies in a wrong way. This may surprise you, but I’ve realized that modern Christians think of their bodies more like Plato than Jesus. We see our physical bodies from the lens of Greek Philosophies, not Hebrew Scriptures.  We can turn our body into a false god. We can see it as the ultimate source of our identity, our happiness, and our self-worth.  Is your body more important than your family or relationships or even your relationship with God?  Then your body has become a god.

Talk 2: Sleep Is An Act Of Worship

Did You Know That Sleep Is Worship? You’ll see a perspective on sleep that no one talks about.  Sleep is a liturgy of surrender. Yes, your bed can be an altar.  The Bible gives four soul-changing reasons why sleep is sacred.

Talk 3: Movement Magnifies The Lord

Today, we want to preach the message, God wants you strong.

The Philippines has a massive problem: An entire generation is now sedentary: we are overworked, overwhelmed, and overweight.

Although there is no specific verse in the Bible that says, “Walk 8000 steps,” or “Do 20 push ups”, the entire framework of Scriptures would make us see how important it is to increase our physical capacity.  Find out the reasons here:
