โManila, Philippines – Heavy to intense rains are expected to drench eastern Luzon and Visayas starting Saturday, November 8, as Severe Tropical Storm “Fung-Wong” (locally named Uwan) nears the country. (Philippine Star, November 7, 2025).
We have been aware of this typhoon for almost a week. This severe storm brought widespread heavy rains, flooding, and landslides. Thousands of families sought refuge in evacuation centers. Flights were cancelled. Classes and government work were suspended early.
I was in the โcomfortโ of my home that night. Still, I did all I could think of to prepare. I charged the powerbanks, gadgets, and flashlights. I have accessible water. I tied up our windows. I braced myself and prayed.
As I listened to the whistling of the typhoon, I found myself asking the Lord –
By the grace of God, we were safe. I would rather be overly-prepared.
This experience reminded me of The Parable of the Ten Virgins (Matthew 25:1-13). It teaches about the importance of being spiritually prepared and watchful for the coming of the Kingdom of Heaven. In the story, only the virgins who brought enough oil for their lamps were ready when the bridegroom arrived, symbolizing those who remain faithful and ready for Christโs return.
While enjoying my borrowed-life on Earth, I am reminded to ask and obey God as to what He still needs me to do to proclaim His love and serve Him.
