Last December, the servants of Wednesday Feast Alabang Media Ministry did the fun activity trending in Tiktok, ”small gift exchange”. We exchanged budget-friendly, themed small gifts, focusing less on price and more on fun.
As we exchanged small tokens, we weren’t just trading items; we were exchanging gratitude for another year of shared mission.
It reminds us that the greatest gift we can give is the affirmation that “I appreciate you, I am here with you, and we’re together in serving God.”
In a world that often measures value by “more” and “bigger,” we were reminded that it is not the bigness or the cost of the gift that matters. It’s the love behind it that really matters.
The fun activity reminded me of God’s grace in big and small things.
Being there for one another is important. It may be viewed as a “small thing”. But our presence for one another is more important than our presents.
Similarly, we often look for God in grand things and events.
But on the incarnation, when God came to earth, He didn’t come with a big parade of angels. He came as a small, humble child in a manger.
The ‘small gift exchange’ is the essence of Christ coming to the world: God’s presence is more important than God’s presents.
