MIND MY OWN TRIP

Just recently, I took a motorcycle on my commute to work. Early in the trip, while on a stop, may tumabi sa akin na motor na kaparehas ng dala ko. Same make and model, and the driver was suited up at the same safety level as I was.

When it was a go, the other bike got ahead of me since I was blocked by another vehicle in front. Magkaparehas lang kami, pero nauna siya? Pride.
So, I decided to add a little rotation sa throttle. I got ahead of the guy (now my archrival on the road). I stayed ahead for most of the trip—until a traffic stop near the last few miles where, once again, we were side by side. I had to turn right; the guy went straight.

Technically, I ā€œwonā€ the race. But when I got to work, I wasn’t happy. I reflected on my behavior. I wasn’t reckless, but my disposition wasn’t in the right place. The other guy wasn’t even racing me. He was just minding his own trip.

In hindsight, I realized I should’ve done the same. At the last mile of that ā€œrace,ā€ I found out na hindi naman pala kami parehas ng byahe. Mayroon akong ibang destinasyon. Just because we started with the same equipment didn’t mean we were headed to the same place.

Now it’s clear to me—my journey is different from that of my peers. My mission is different. Sure, we may start with the same tools, but the obstacles and routes we take are never the same. Honestly, I sometimes complain to God about those obstacles—ang hirap naman kasi. Sometimes I feel like I’m in a race—minsan nauuna, minsan naiiwan.

But that’s not what matters. What matters is finishing the journey with faith, trusting that God has already planned my route and will see me through until I arrive.

Meanwhile, as this trip of life continues, I’ll take pleasure in the company of those I’m blessed to share the road with—learning from them, inspiring them, and being inspired by them.

Note to self: Have a wonderful journey!
