HUMBLE OFFERING

Josephine was a regular attendee of our Feast back when we used to hold our sessions at the Festival Mall. She could hear but could not speak because she is mute (pipi). She did not have formal sign language training but she tries to communicate with us in the best way that she could, sometimes through handwritten notes.

Every now and then, she would offer flowers to Mama Mary at our small altar before the Feast begins. As our little way to help her, we would offer to pay for the flowers even though she refuses to accept it sometimes.

One day, we were surprised to see her raise her envelope during love offering. She was constant in her giving every time she attends the Feast.

During our Christmas Feast in 2022, she handed me these potholders wrapped in a plastic “labo” bag and signaled that these were her gifts to me and my husband. I was astounded. They were not that extravagant but I knew they came from a heart that desires to truly give.

I was humbled by her offering. It reminded of the shepherds who came to give homage to Jesus. They were not of high significance in society yet they were the first one to see Jesus. It is true that no one is too poor to give and no one is too rich to receive.

I pray that each of you would experience the joy of giving and receiving just like Jesus did on the first Christmas.
