Lately, while going through my stuff, I found a book me and my wife bought during the Lux Retreat (shameless plug: thereās another one this September). It was by Bro. Arun Gogna.
I was already deep into the second chapter when what I was reading suddenly didnāt make sense. I went back, confused, and decided to read from the top. This time, I read the title. And there it wasāclarity. I didnāt need to reread everything; I just needed the title. Suddenly, the past paragraphs made sense, and I could sense where Bro. Arun was taking me. Having read his works before, I was familiar with his style.
As usual, napatawa na naman ako sa realization ko.
Iāve long been conscious of my bad habit of skipping titles and headlines. In presentation slides, I get lost in the details until I force myself to read the headline. In articles or books, I often skip the title and jump straight into the linesāuntil I get confused and remind myself: Go back. Read the title.
In life, madalas ganito tayo. We go straight to the lines, working our way through, only to find ourselves confused in the middle because we didnāt read the title first.
Reading the title prepares our mind and heart for whatās ahead. It gives context to the story, even while weāre in the messy middle.
Right now, Iām in that messy middle. Having special children (plural) in the family sometimes doesnāt make sense if I donāt know the title of our story.
God is Sovereign.
Thatās the title I choose for our storyāfor my story. Because of this, everything becomes an act of surrender. Now it makes sense.
And knowing the Author helps, too. God is the Author of my story and knowing Him helps me make sense of things because Iāve become familiar with His styles and patterns.
