Itโs funny how we can be affected by things happening so far away from us. Wars in countries we may never visit and decisions made by people we will never meet somehow find their way into our daily lives. Recently, we see it in something very ordinary, the rising price of fuel.
A conflict in another part of the world can change the price of gasoline here. It can affect electricity, transportation, and many of the small expenses we worry about every day. We try to live quiet and ordinary lives, yet we are affected by problems we did not create and wars we did not start.
It reminds me how little control we truly have over many things in life. We plan, we save, we work hard, but there will always be things beyond our control. Prices rise. The world changes. Life becomes uncertain.
Recently, as we were preparing for our Holy Week recollection, we kept singing the line, โEven though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.โ It reminded me that faith was never about avoiding difficult valleys, but about trusting that God walks with us through them.
Control was never really ours. We were only asked to keep walking in faith, even when the road is uncertain.
So dear brothers and sisters, let us be kinder, softer, and choose to be light even when things feel dark.
And remember that we are not alone.
