I was raised by Baby Boomer parents who grew up in an era of rebuilding after 2 world wars.
War taught them the value of obedience.
Whenever I disobey my mom, I have to face her alter ego and trusted soldiers: Sergeant Sinturon (the belt), and Captain Chinelas (the sandals).
But besides this, my boomer parents gave me a profound spiritual gift: fidelity.
Fidelity is not simply about staying in one place– it is an active, daily choice to honor a commitment.
My dad worked with Manila Electric company for 38 years (photo).
Every hour of overtime, every quiet hardship, and every personal dream, he set aside for our family.
The Boomer generation consistently delayed personal gratification to secure a brighter, more stable future for the next generation. I was able to graduate college because of the sacrifices of my mom and dad.
This mirrors Jesusβ unconditional love who willingly sacrificed on the cross to pay the penalty of our sins. He endured brutal execution to fulfill a redemptive mission, showing obedience and trust in the Father’s plan.
May this be a reminder that a life of deep respect, commitment, and willing sacrifice should not be an outdated relic of the past.
We need to live out these values. They are foundations of lasting relationships.
They are necessary in overcoming our challenges and achieve goals bigger than ourselves.
