They say we should disconnect to connect—unplug from gadgets so we can connect with people.
Well, I took that advice way too literally. I disconnected our entire house… by accidentally cutting the fiber line.
In our time, losing the internet is basically the third horseman of the apocalypse—
right after no electricity and no running water.
So my brain kicked into survival mode.
“How do I get away with this? Will anyone notice?
Maybe the WiFi can pretend it’s just ‘reconnecting’ for the next 12 hours?”
But really, there was no hiding it.
Before I left for work, I woke my wife up and told her the truth.
I apologized for leaving her and the kids with no internet, and even tried to sound philosophical by saying,“I messed up… this is not in my nature.” (Trust me, even I didn’t believe it.)
But instead of being disappointed, she turned the whole thing into comedy.
Our dinner table became a stand-up show about why and how anyone could possibly mistake a fiber line for anything else.
Apologizing is one thing—but someone accepting that apology with grace, humor, and openness is a gift we shouldn’t take for granted.
In the end, yes, I disconnected the internet…
but the fiber of truth and honesty reconnected us in a far more meaningful way
