I am currently reading this book by John Maxwell, Talent is Never Enough. And there is a part in the book that talks about initiative. It says that “initiative activates your talent.”
I made me reflect on my current situation and wonder. Do I lack talent, or do I lack initiative? I know the things that I am good at, and I know these things with the proper break, can make me a successful person, but why am I not fully successful? Sometimes we get caught, trying to do things at the perfect moment, which dampens our initiative; instead of taking action, we try to calculate the risk and eventually end up doing nothing.
The book also says that it is easier to move from failure to success than to move from excuses to success. Some of our excuses are valid, and we call them facts of life, like the weather or a death in the family. These things are hard to control, and we simply do our best to deal with them, but on the other hand, some of our excuses are things we can handle, or simply put, it is our responsibility. Sometimes it just feels overwhelming to do, but it can be done slowly, one step at a time.
As I was reading these parts of the book, I could hear God telling me, “I already gave you the talents; all you have to do is move.”
