LOVING THE UNLOVABLE

I have a nephew who seems to have a talent for running into all sorts of troubles.

As a family, it pains us to see him struggle. Thereโ€™s this nagging voice in our heads: โ€œDapat pabayaan na muna siya, maybe then he’ll learn his lessons.โ€ A part of us wants to step back, thinking maybe distance will teach him.

Then, one day, may problema na naman siya. I saw his messagesโ€”his desperate plea for help. My first instinct? I wanted to ignore them. I even muttered to God, โ€œ๐ด๐‘›๐‘” โ„Ž๐‘–๐‘Ÿ๐‘Ž๐‘ ๐‘›๐‘Ž๐‘š๐‘Ž๐‘›, ๐ฟ๐‘œ๐‘Ÿ๐‘‘.โ€

And then Jesus gently reminded me: sometimes, love is not about whatโ€™s easy or convenientโ€”itโ€™s about showing mercy even when itโ€™s hard.

As Luke 6:32-35 says, โ€œ๐ผ๐‘“ ๐‘ฆ๐‘œ๐‘ข ๐‘™๐‘œ๐‘ฃ๐‘’ ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘œ๐‘ ๐‘’ ๐‘คโ„Ž๐‘œ ๐‘™๐‘œ๐‘ฃ๐‘’ ๐‘ฆ๐‘œ๐‘ข, ๐‘คโ„Ž๐‘Ž๐‘ก ๐‘๐‘Ÿ๐‘’๐‘‘๐‘–๐‘ก ๐‘–๐‘  ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘Ž๐‘ก ๐‘ก๐‘œ ๐‘ฆ๐‘œ๐‘ข?

Loving the unlovable can be messy, inconvenient, and sometimes frustratingโ€”but it reflects Godโ€™s heart.

When we choose to love this way, we become vessels of His hope, mercy, and grace. Loving the unlovable doesn’t just help themโ€”it transforms us, shaping our hearts to mirror Godโ€™s patience, compassion, and unconditional love.
