As we step into a new year, I find myself reflecting on a moment from our WFA Christmas celebration. We were asked to write down our wishes, and the head of the Awesome Kids Ministry (AKM) invited the children to do the same. Like most parents, I assumed my 8-year-old would wish for toys, candies, or something fun.
Instead, he wrote a simple yet powerful prayer – that my business would become successful. My heart stood still. No wish for himself, just love, concern, and faith for his Mama. In that small pink paper, I saw a heart so pure and selfless, a kind of love that doesnโt calculate or ask for anything in return.
Somewhere along the way, we adults forget how to love like that. Life teaches us to be anxious, to strive, to put ourselves first. But children remind us of the kind of heart God delights in; humble, trusting, and generous.
As we welcome this new year, I take this as a gentle reminder from God.
May this year be one where we unlearn the noise of the world and relearn the simple, selfless love that leads us closer to Him.
