When we are in a difficult season of our life, it is easy to feel as though the world has shrunk to the size of our problems.
My wife Mia has breast cancer.
At the beginning, she’s constantly hounded by fear and worry.
Slowly, God revealed to her that her problem is also a source of numerous gifts.
She had very little (even negligible) side effects of chemotherapy. Countless people provided help. There’s an outpour of gifts and financial blessings from countless people. She’s literally surrounded by gifts.
There is an ancient belief that the desert is where the most profound spiritual gifts are found. In the desert, we stop relying on our own plans. And when we begin to trust God, we start noticing the little and big gifts God is constantly giving.
So when you’re struggling, know that God is holding you. When confused, God’s guiding your way.
When we acknowledge the abundance of grace despite the weight of our burdens, we stop being victims of our circumstances. We start to notice that,”everything works together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28 NLT)
