HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (HIMYM)

By Mike Sanchez

I was hooked on this comedy series back in 2005. It’s about a future-father (Ted Mosby) telling his children in a future year 2030 the long story of how he met their mother. It involves the lives of his close-knit group of friends as they navigate the complexities of growing up.

One funny episode is when best friends Ted and Marshall developed a ritual. When one of them was having a stressful day, they would simply go to a state of absolute, unjudged comfort: sitting together on the couch, not talking, and just being present while eating junk food, devouring pizza, or watching TV together– but agreeing to call it a date (so they won’t feel pathetic).

Sometimes, the greatest act of friendship isn’t a profound advice, but simply sharing a pizza. Or giving a non-judgmental acceptance.

This is how I feel when I’m with my Light Group.

Friend, God is where you are right now.

His love is detailed enough to care about every big and small stuff in your life.

Sadly, we often feel we need to clean up our lives before we go to Him. Or before we join a spiritual community. Or become a part of a light group.

God wants to be in all areas of your life— not just in the earthquakes, but when you’re having a hard time finding a parking slot.

Stop running. Come to God as you are. He wants to hear every single detail of your life, no matter how big, how small or how silly they are.

And in case you are in a difficult situation, He just wants to sit down with you in your mess, and gently points you toward the best future version of yourself.
