My first car in 2004 was a Mazda model 3. It has sporty driving dynamics, so it’s tempting to drive it at top speed.
One day, me and Joe (a colleague who bought the same car) drove through Skyway to see a customer. Joe challenged me to a race to Makati tollgate exit. Little did I know that he drives like Michael Schumacher!
The outcome? One could assume he won our race since he drove faster than me. But you see, I have an e-Pass, and he didnβt. When Joe reached the ‘CASH’ lane, there were more than 10 cars lined up in the cashier. I reached and exited the gate first because the exclusive e-Pass lane didnβt have that same traffic jam.
(We were young and stupid back then. Please donβt imitate us.)
Dimas and Gestas, two thieves who were crucified with Jesus, had the same proximity to salvation. But the humble plea of Dimas, “πΏπππ, ππππππππ ππ π€βππ π¦ππ’ ππππ πππ‘π π¦ππ’π πππππππ”, earned him the “first place” in the heart of Jesus.
Friend, do not treat life like a race, where speed (or accolades, or how long you’ve served, or the titles attached to your name, or the millions in your bank account) are perceived as your most important goals.
Your worth isn’t in your trophies.
Did you fight your race with integrity, kindness, and commitment, when it was easier to cut corners?
Remember: possessions fade; character endures.
