Every morning, my family prays together as we drive to bring my wife to her workplace. We pray kids’ prayer before school then say thanks to our God for the blessings we’ve received then ask for help for the rest of the day. It’s been like that ever since.
Recently though, we noticed my eldest boy praying a little different than the usual. For example, I would pray this way.
Lord, thank You for our food yesterday, for work… Lord, help us stay healthy, help us be productive… etc.
By my eldest boy prayed this way…
Lord, thank You for the camper car that I will buy when I grow up. Thank You for the big house that I will have. Lord, thank You I will take care of my mommy and daddy when I grow old. Lord, help me get the money so I can buy the house.
His prayer left us astounded. It’s so full of trust that God has already provided to him what he needs and wants even before it has been physically given to him.
From that, I changed how I pray. Now, I pray as if I have already received the blessing. I ask help from God to help me see and trust in Him more that my prayers have already been given.
May we always have the trust and faith to pray like a child.
