PRESENCE

Last week, I was struggling with some form of allergy. I had rashes on my face, neck, and arms. It was very itchy, and at some point, it gave that burning sensation on the skin, somewhat similar to how it feels when you have a sunburn. It was really uncomfortable, and sleeping was very difficult.

But despite this, I tried to push myself to do the things that need to be done. One of which was my scheduled talk at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in New Manila last Friday, which happens to be our color coding that day.

I left early to be spared from the color coding and be at the venue by 5pm which is the window hour. I arrived two hours early for my 7:30 talk. I waited at the lobby of the parish by 5:30 I could slowly feel my skin drying up and start to itch. I tried to keep my composure despite the discomfort. By 6pm I decided to hear mass so I decided to go to the Basilica.

When I arrived there, I sat near the front. The church was not air-conditioned, but somehow I felt a very cool breeze. It relieved the itchiness.

It was comforting.

Calming.

Assuring.

Then I heard God whisper, β€œI am here.”

Even before the mass started, I felt His presence.

He was in the breeze, He was in the words of the priest, He was in the Eucharist.
He was there and always will be.
