There are moments in life when a mistake is so costly, it leaves you stunned. One of those moments happened to me over something that seemed so small, yet meant so much.
After carefully cleaning my favorite set of jewelry, I set them on a paper towel to dry on the dining table. As I was about to leave the room, I felt hesitant. What if someone accidentally knocked them over? So in my haste, I wrapped the jewelry in a paper towel and slipped it into my pocket.
Later that day, while out grocery shopping, I felt the paper towel in my pocket. Absentmindedly, and assuming it was just trash, I tossed it into the nearest garbage can.
That night, as I was winding down, the image of the jewelry suddenly popped into my head, and I froze.
The realization hit me like ice water down my back.
I sat up in shock, my mind racing. Could I go back and dig through the trash? But it was a grocery store, and impossible to trace one small paper towel. The jewelry I bought with months of my hard-earned money was gone in a second.
As I sat in the quiet, trying to get a grip of my sadness, God gently showed me something deeper.
Every day, I carelessly throw away something even more precious…my time! How often do I waste it on things that have no eternal value, like mindless getting lost in online distractions?
Just like that jewelry, time is priceless. And once it’s gone, you can’t get it back.
